About:

Ipswich & District Council for Voluntary Services (ICVS) was formed by voluntary and community groups from in and around Ipswich in 1959. ICVS is a part of a national network of more than 350 CVS. ICVS has a vision to see a vibrant and sustainable VCS and voluntary action in Ipswich. Ipswich CVS wants to see the sector engaged and recognised for its contribution and expertise in tackling social exclusion, promoting health, reducing health inequalities, building strong and safe communities and an institution of social capital. Above all ICVS wants to celebrate how the VCS in Ipswich and district enables enjoyment of the arts, provides a range of volunteering opportunities, enables people to contribute and help themselves and their communities, recognises needs and does something about it. ICVS does this in ways recognised as the main areas of work for a CVS.

They are:

  • Services and support: promote the effectiveness of local voluntary and community groups by providing them with a range of services.
  • Liaison: As a focal point for the local VCS, ICVS encourages networking between individuals and groups within the sector and between local groups and the statutory and private sectors. ICVS helps different groups to organise their own networking activity.
  • Representation: aims to enable the views of local groups to be represented early enough to make a difference.
  • Development work: aims to work with community and voluntary groups to recognise need and make a VCS solution happen for people in Ipswich and the right support services accessible to groups in Ipswich.
  • Strategic partnerships: ICVS aims to work in partnership with our One Ipswich Partners to shape the delivery of services and empower local groups to take part in partnerships for regeneration, neighbourhood renewal, health and social care, learning and other initiatives, If your group needs answers, we will help to make sure that you get them. Even if we can't help directly, we aim to make sure you have clear route to the answers and support your needs. With you we can identify need and respond to it with effective voluntary sector action.
